Baden in Austria is about 30 kilometers away from the Austrian capital Vienna. It´s as charming as Vienna but it offers a lot more parks, lush forests and a steady flowing river called Schwechat. Truly a place to relax, to swim or for having a barbecue and a great place for a weekend trip for the nature lovers in us.
After an adventurous bike tour along the Wienerwald forest we took the chance and tested the different restaurants and gourmet possibilities in the Biedermeier city.

Our 5 Gourmet Travel Highlights For Baden // Not To Miss:
1. Testing Austria´s most famous dessert at the Kaiserhaus
As an Austrian you should like Kaiserschmarren, if not love it. The dessert is one of the most famous desserts in the alpine region. But to be honest. I didn´t like Kaiserschmarren that much. Now I know, why. Because most of the places I tried it, it tasted like rubber. In Baden it was the first time I really enjoyed this dessert. It was tasty and fluffy like a sweet cloud. Herwig Gasser showed us at the Kaiserhaus Baden (Hauptplatz 17, 2500 Baden) during his Kaiserschmarren-Show how the dessert is made. He gave us some tips on how to melt sugar, how the Kaiserschmarren will remain fluffy and we even helped him to do so.

Tip: Try the Kaiserschmarren with raisins and ‘Zwetschgenröster’ (cooked plums) aaaand don´t forget to take the recipe with you.
2. Picnic among thousands of roses
You can enjoy a picnic among thousands of roses and in the shade close to the oldest tree in the city. At the Rosarium in the Doblhoffpark we had a “picnic to go”. The picnic basket is filled with local specialties like cheese, bread, a cake and local juices. You can order it via www.badener-picknickkorb.at

3. Wine and Dine at Ceidl
The Weingut Ceidl is a so called Heuriger. This is a special form of a restaurant you find in the eastern part of Austria. This means only their own produced wine and food will find its way onto your plate. It´s a delicious way to enjoy home made food in a casual location.
Before we headed to the event “Baden in Weiß” where the whole city celebrates in white, we enjoyed our vegetarian dishes in the garden. This is a picture of our friends and blogging colleagues in the garden of the Weingut Ceidl (Vöslauer Str. 15, 2500 Baden).

Tip: Enjoy your meal in the garden.
4. Top Level Cuisine at the Casino Baden
Did you know you can enjoy a 4 course menu at a casino? Well. This was knew for us too. The 4 course menu was for fish and meat lovers which bothered us a lot. When we asked for a vegetarian or vegan alternative they had no problem at all and cooked an awesome vegan menu for us.

After the dinner we learned how to play Roulette and spent our welcome jetons faster than I thought. 😀
5. Breakfast with the best view
During our weekend in Baden we stayed at the At the Park Hotel. Next to the beautiful view of the Kurpark we enjoyed fresh, local products. Fresh fruits, vegetables, bread and more and they even served a soja latte macchiato.

Tip: Enjoy the breakfast at the terrace, surrounded by the Kurpark.

Bin mit allen Tipps einer Meinung mit Dir -aber die beste Aussicht hatten wohl wir – vom Hotel Herzoghof aus 🙂
Darüber lässt sich streiten. 😀
Da ich im At the Park Hotel gewohnt habe muss ich es dir wohl glauben. 🙂
the whole cities celebrates in white? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Yes. Every year in July. It is a beautiful event. Not only the buildings are white (a lot of them) but also about 30,000 people.
Bin mir sicher, dass es in eurem Hotel auch sehr schön war.
