I really like your comment about avoiding unpaved roads if it has rained. I’m sure you would be able to rent a car with four wheel drive if you had to access something via an unpaved road, but if you didn’t have a vehicle like that it would make sense to steer clear. I would think you could ask about this option when looking into a rental.

Yes, of course it’s possible renting a four wheel drive but I was „only“ driving on paved roads anyways most of the time, so I didn’t rent a four wheel drive.
I live in the Alps in Austria and I know how dangerous it can be if you drive in unknown territory without the right equipment.
So, it’s better to stay on safe roads, in this case paved roads. 🙂
