Known for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the <i>real <\/i>and the\u00a0<em>original<\/em>\u00a0Mozartkugeln, Salzburger Nockerl, the Fortress Hohensalzburg and for The Sound of Music.<br \/>\nThe last one especially in the United States, in Asia and in all countries around the world except for Austria.\u00a0It\u00b4s kind of weird because some of the scenes play in Salzburg. At least that\u00b4s what I was told.<br \/>\nSorry, but we Austrians never watched this film and we have no idea why it is so famous or what it\u00b4s really about. (Maybe it\u00b4s time to watch it.)<\/p>\n<p>Salzburg is also called beer capital of Austria. Did you know that? That\u00b4s where we find the hidden Bottle Shop. Only a sign at the street shows the way to the inner courtyard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6414\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6414\" style=\"width: 878px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6414 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Bottle-Shop-Salzburg-e1443881236813.jpg\" alt=\"Bottle Shop in Salzburg\" width=\"888\" height=\"698\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6414\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bottle Shop &#8211; beer and cider from national and international breweries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Down the stairs or along a wooden slide (whatever you fancy) we reach the cellar, where Christine Keil, the owner already is waiting for us. She proudly shows us her\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beerbottle.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Bottle Shop<\/a>\u00a0. Beer from around the world I never heard of but that\u00b4s no wonder. Christine and her husband only sell beer from micro breweries. Beerwise.\u00a0In the Lounge area of the Bottle Shop we taste a little glas of beer before we leave for the guided beer tour with Martina Gyuroka.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hundreds of years of history and hundreds of beer wisdoms<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Martina is known as the\u00a0Salzburger Bierguide\u00a0and her guided beer tours in Salzburg are in various languages. It was not a second boring, listening to her stories and following her along into hidden places and the streets of Salzburg. She showed us the history of beer and the breweries in pictures, as well as the real places. Brewing was a women\u00b4s domain (until the monks interfered) and it\u00b4s not surprising that we were surrounded by women the whole day long.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6430\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6430\" style=\"width: 878px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6430 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Salzburg-Bierf\u00fchrung-e1443883562457.jpg\" alt=\"guided beer tour in Salzburg\" width=\"888\" height=\"729\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Martinas passion: stories and anecdotes about beer and Salzburg.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Martina is like a walking book and knows countless beer quotes and anecdotes around the liquid gold.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder we \u00b4re getting thursty after a while:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Salzburg-Zwettler-Kaiser-Karl-Bier-e1443883692357.jpg\" alt=\"Salzburg Zwettler Kaiser Karl Bier\" width=\"888\" height=\"666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before Martina left us at the Trumerei we had some beer and Brezen at the Zwettler\u00b4s.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Food Pairing at the Trumerei<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And again. Another woman, this time Johanna Panholzer is awaiting us at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trumerei.at\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Trumerei<\/a> to spend two hours with us. She is a beer somelier and has lots of interesting stories and facts about the different beer we have with each course. Another walking book.<br \/>\nIt\u00b4s a pleasure listening to Johanna and as you can tell by her face she loves what she does.<br \/>\nAnd I love the 6 course menu. Especially because it\u00b4s all vegetarian.<\/p>\n<p>The menu is delicious and I was more than surprised that a 6 course menu with different beer costs only \u20ac29 per person for a group (5 people +).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6436\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Bierkulinarium-Trumerei-Salzburg-e1443884743448.jpg\" alt=\"Bierkulinarium Trumerei Salzburg\" width=\"888\" height=\"740\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If I had to decide between a menu with beer or wine degustation I would definitely go for beer.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Sweet_Treat_The_Venus_Nipple%C2%B4s\"><\/span>2. Sweet Treat: The Venus Nipple\u00b4s<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While walking through the old town of Salzburg I asked Martina from Salzburg Tourism if she can tell me about some specialties besides the Mozartkugeln and Salzburger Nockerl. Specialties you can only find in Salzburg. She said: &#8220;Venus Nipple\u00b4s&#8221;.<br \/>\nVenus, WHAT?<\/p>\n<p>The name is hilarious and after visiting the Untersberg mountain she told the taxi driver (a woman again) to stop at the Gwandhaus. It\u00b4s a beautiful old building where you can have a cake, coffee and food in the backyard, where you can buy (expensive but awesome Dirndl dresses) AND the Venus Nipple\u00b4s.<br \/>\nMartina served us a plate full of the chocolates. My favorite is the white chocolate Venus Nipple with a berry filling.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6398\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6398\" style=\"width: 878px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6398 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Venusbr\u00fcstchen-Salzburg-e1443878429722.jpg\" alt=\"Venus Nipple\u00b4s in Salzburg - a local specialty\" width=\"888\" height=\"696\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6398\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Venus Nipple\u00b4s &#8211; if you don\u00b4t have to smile at least a little (like Martina) then you probably have no humor at all. \ud83d\ude00<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Apple_Strudel_Cooking_Course_with_Johann_Bauer\"><\/span>3. Apple Strudel Cooking Course with Johann Bauer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I love our Austrian dessert Apple Strudel (Apfelstrudel)\u00a0and all the different variations. But the best of the all is the Apfelschlangerl my grandmother made. If you like to try it, here\u00b4s the recipe:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/grannys-apfelschlangerl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&gt; Granny\u00b4s Apfelschlangerl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Second best is the Apple Strudel we made\u00a0with the help of chef Johann Bauer at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taste-gassner.com\/stieglkeller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Stieglkeller<\/a>. Since April he offers his cooking lessons in Salzburg. It looks like this was always the case. Hundreds of years ago the archbishop built castle Hellbrunn not as a residence but for his pure pleasure.<\/p>\n<p>We visited the castle Hellbrunn already last December for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/best-christmas-and-advent-markets-in-salzburg-austria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hellbrunner\u00a0Adventzauber<\/a>. The main attraction was closed at this time but now in September we had a chance to see (and feel) it.<\/p>\n<p>The trick fountains are fascinating and a little\u00a0insidiously.
