We don\u00b4t talk about driving down a boring highway, hundreds of hundreds of kilometers. We want to have fun on the road. This means that sometimes the roads can be a little bit <strong>challenging<\/strong> like the narrow roads in Ireland or the winding roads up to a gorge or in the mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Best_Road_Trips_in_Europe_%E2%80%93_Our_Favorites\"><\/span>The Best Road Trips in Europe &#8211; Our Favorites<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We like doing road trips with a campervan as often as possible. Here are some reasons why you should consider it too: Reasons For\u00a0Traveling And Living In A Campervan.<br \/>\nAs for Ireland: We always booked the car in advance and picked it up at Dublin airport.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Ireland\"><\/span>1. Ireland<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ireland with its green and wild landscape is the perfect place for a road trip. After getting used to <strong>driving on the left side<\/strong> (which isn\u00b4t as hard as you might think) you will enjoy the <strong>rugged coast<\/strong>, <strong>narrow\u00a0roads<\/strong> protected by a canopy of trees, and the famous <strong>stone walls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Best-European-Road-Trips-e1438011317585.jpg\" alt=\"Best European Road Trips\" width=\"888\" height=\"629\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Read more:<\/p>\n<p>ALONG THE RING OF KERRY<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/en\/best-places-ireland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/en\/travel-ireland-on-a-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TRAVEL IRELAND ON A BUDGET<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Road-Trip-Ireland2-e1438024357470.jpg\" alt=\"Best European Road Trips\" width=\"888\" height=\"639\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration: 7\u00a0days<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Best Time: Summer or winter &#8211; if you are comfortable driving in winter time (with the possibility of some snowflakes during the road trip) you can do it in winter too. We were there in February having a\u00a0great time because there were only few tourists around. In case you don\u00b4t want to drive in winter, (Note: always check the\u00a0weather forecast) summer means more tourists and the sights can be a lot more crowded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_France_%E2%80%93_Along_the_Lavender_Route_Provence\"><\/span>2. France &#8211; Along the Lavender Route, Provence<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/en\/route-de-lavande-provence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lavender Route<\/a> in Southern France is <em>the\u00a0<\/em>place if you like the color and the smell of the purple flowers. But it\u00b4s not the only reason why you should do a road trip along the Lavender Route at least once. The road is winding up along one of the largest gorges in Europe. The turquoise water of the Verdon flows slowly between the cliffs and you can take a rest at the different lakes along the road which we highly recommend.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Road-Trip-Frankreich-e1438023276197.jpg\" alt=\"Best Road Trips in Europe\" width=\"888\" height=\"666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(We included some information about a road trip to the Provence &#8211; see 5. Croatia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Driving along the coastal highway in Croatia, you can\u00b4t do anything wrong. There are many stops and places to enjoy. The only downside of driving the coastal highway in Croatia is that it might take some time (a lot of time) because of certain speed limits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5923\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Road-Trip-Primosten-e1438026159402.jpg\" alt=\"Best Road Trips In Europe\" width=\"888\" height=\"666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration: 1 week<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Best Time: Summer if you want to swim, otherwise the whole year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Austria\"><\/span>4. Austria<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you like challenging roads and heights you will like the winding roads in the Austrian Alps.<\/p>\n<p>You will find the best roads definitely in Tirol. Some of them include the Timmelsjoch between the \u00d6tztal and South Tyrol, the Hahntennjoch between Imst and the Lechtal, or the Hochtannbergpass between Vorarlberg and the Lechtal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-22215\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/roads-in-austria.jpg\" alt=\"pass in Tyrol in winter with a winding road, snow and a sunset\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/roads-in-austria.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/roads-in-austria-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/roads-in-austria-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/roads-in-austria-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Time: Summer. Provence, France<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While driving the Lavender Route we wanted to see more of the Provence. England<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This was one of our spontaneous <strong>weekend road trips<\/strong>. 48 hours. From London to Stonehenge and the Blackpool Illuminations.
