I ended the journey in Toronto, saving many hours of driving. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, booking a flight to Montr\u00e9al and back from Toronto was cheaper than a round trip to Toronto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"dezente-hintergrundbox\"><\/span><b>\u2b50\ufe0f Tip:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Find the best flight deals on the comparison portal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discovercars.com\/canada?a_aid=Christina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DiscoverCars<\/a>. Just before Tadoussac, the road ends and continues on the opposite bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means getting onto the ferry with the car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ferry operates 24 hours a day and is free of charge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driving onto the ferry is quick and easy. During the crossing, you can visit the observation deck to enjoy the rugged landscape and views of the Saguenay Fjord.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At certain times, you might even see Beluga whales from the ferry if you&#8217;re lucky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wasn&#8217;t, but I later learned why there were no whales here around noon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I spent the afternoon at the Marine Center in quaint Tadoussac and then walked along the Islet Trail which I highly recommend.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This trail is the most scenic among the hiking trails in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trail, consisting of wooden boardwalks, winds along Tadoussac Bay. Here, if you&#8217;re lucky enough, you can also spot whales.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14407\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14407\" style=\"width: 1390px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14407 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fullsizeoutput_219a-e1584527040285.jpeg\" alt=\"wooden path along the pointe d'islet trail in Tadoussac with a view of the St. Lawrence River\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pointe d&#8217;Islet Trail in Tadoussac<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was particularly excited about the next day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That&#8217;s when the whale-watching tour was scheduled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to stay at the hotel with the best view overlooking the bay, you should check out the Hotel Tadoussac. I had a great room with an undisturbed view of the beach and the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_3_Whale_Watching\"><\/span><b>Day 3: Whale Watching<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16439\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16439\" style=\"width: 1390px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16439 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/beluga-whale-with-baby-tadoussac-canada-scaled-e1584972793144.jpg\" alt=\"beluga whale with baby in Tadoussac Canada\" width=\"1400\" height=\"932\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16439\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">beluga whale with baby<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two options for whale watching in Tadoussac: either by Zodiac or a larger boat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I chose the Zodiac, and it was the better choice. The boat took us much closer to the whales than the larger ship, and at the end of the trip, we even went into the Saguenay Fjord.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seals live here, and there is an impressive waterfall that flows directly into the fjord. The larger ship, however, does not go into the fjord.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2 \u00bd-hour Zodiac trip allowed me to see Beluga whales, including some with their young.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also spotted a Minke whale. If I had known how much I would like Tadoussac, I would have stayed longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My journey continued to Trois-Rivi\u00e8res. The city is located in the south of the province of Qu\u00e9bec on the shore of the Saint Lawrence River.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I stayed overnight<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/ca\/kinipi-spa-nordique-hebergement.xu.html?aid=1866216&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Trois-Rivi\u00e8res<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_4_Trois-Rivieres\"><\/span><b>Day 4: Trois-Rivi\u00e8res<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14805\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14805\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14805 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/fullsizeoutput_2443-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap in Trois-Rivieres Canada\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14805\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trois-Rivi\u00e8res is known for the Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap church. It stands out due to its size and striking architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next to the church is a beautifully landscaped park with an old stone bridge. I highly recommend taking some time to visit the church as well as the park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Trois-Rivi\u00e8res, I didn&#8217;t stay long as my day&#8217;s final destination was Gananoque.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This small town at the outlet of Lake Ontario and the beginning of the Saint Lawrence River is known as the 1000 Islands area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From here, boat tours start along the 1000 Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the afternoon, however, I explored the small town of Gananoque.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right next to the tourism office is an idyllic, small park with typical Canadian chairs, various sculptures, and an old locomotive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laverne\u2019s Eatery<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it&#8217;s very cozy, and as it started to rain heavily, I spent some time there. They were very friendly and I enjoyed coffee and a salad.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_5_1000_Islands_from_Gananoque\"><\/span><b>Day 5: 1000 Islands from Gananoque<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14442\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14442\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14442 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/fullsizeoutput_21d4-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Boldt-Castle surrounded by water at the 1000 islands\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14442\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a part of Boldt Castle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the border area between Canada and the USA (New York State), the 1000 Islands are located. With the Gananoque Boat Line, you can take a boat trip around some of these islands, which are partly inhabited and partly uninhabited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have the option of a 1-hour, 2.5-hour, or 5-hour boat trip. Alternatively, you can book a boat tour around the 1000 Islands online in advance. 1000 Islands Visitors Center<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travel1000islands.ca\/plan\/visitor-centre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Website<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I chose the 2.5-hour version. During the 5-hour version, you can also visit Boldt Castle, located on US soil. However, you need to bring a valid passport for this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without a passport, the boat repeatedly crosses the border between Canada and the USA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The boat trip is recommendable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I had time I would have joined<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gyg.me\/Y9Ory7Qy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the helicopter tour over the 1000 islands<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because everyone raves about this experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Gananoque, my road trip continued towards Algonquin Provincial Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I stayed<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/ca\/fairy-bay-lakehouse.xu.html?aid=1866216&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Huntsville<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for 2 nights to be close to the park.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the 5th day in Eastern Canada, the epic road trip continues to some of the most beautiful national parks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exploring_Canadas_Most_Beautiful_National_Parks\"><\/span><b>Exploring Canada\u2019s Most Beautiful National Parks<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The national parks in Eastern Canada are referred to as Provincial Parks. I spent 2 days in Provincial Parks in Ontario. Here, nature is still as untouched as one imagines Canada to be. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure to visit at least one of the parks. I went on a solo walking tour, as well as a hiking tour in Algonquin Park, as well as the Awenda Park close to Midland.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Day_6_Algonquin_Provincial_Park\"><\/span><b>Day 6: Algonquin Provincial Park<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14799\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14799 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/fullsizeoutput_21d3-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"view of Algonquin Provincial Park Canada\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">view from the Lookout Trail<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Algonquin Provincial Park, spanning 2,982.64 square miles (7,725 km\u00b2), is Ontario&#8217;s largest national park and also its oldest provincial park, established in 1893.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A drive through Algonquin Provincial Park alone showcases Canada&#8217;s pure natural beauty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park is home to over 140 bird species, 50 mammal species, and 30 reptile and amphibian species, all of which are non-venomous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Algonquin Provincial Park, you can camp, picnic, swim, canoe, and hike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have enough time you should plan to hike along the numerous trails.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 15 different trails, varying in length.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During my visit at the end of May, some trails were closed due to flooding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trails range from flat to inclined, but all are easily manageable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My favorites were the Spruce Bog Boardwalk and the Lookout Trail, which are also the most popular in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Algonquin_Provincial_Park_The_Lookout_Trail\"><\/span><b>Algonquin Provincial Park: The Lookout Trail<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a ranger, the Lookout is the most popular trail, attracting visitors from all over the world. It was my first destination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At mile 25 (kilometer 40) from the West Gate, the Lookout Trail branches off to the left.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The trail is 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long, leading through a forest to a viewpoint. It is marked as difficult on the park map, but I found it more of a walk than a challenging hike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was lucky to find flowers in the forest that only bloom in May, including the Red Trillium. Also, since I was alone and quiet, I encountered several small, curious animals along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highlight of the Lookout Trail is the view of Lake of Two Rivers and Little Rock Lake from the viewpoint at 1722 feet (525 meters) above sea level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would have loved to stay longer to enjoy the view, but there were quite a few mosquitoes at that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Algonquin_Provincial_Park_Spruce_Bog_Boardwalk\"><\/span><b>Algonquin Provincial Park: Spruce Bog Boardwalk<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14803\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14803\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14803 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/fullsizeoutput_2447-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Spruce Bog Boardwalk Algonquin Provincial Park\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14803\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spruce Bog Boardwalk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Spruce Bog Boardwalk, near the Lookout, is 0.9 miles (1.5 km) long and wheelchair accessible. Most of it runs on wooden boardwalks. It&#8217;s a great spot for moose sightings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, I had no luck seeing moose, possibly because some hikers were too loud, enjoying the \u201cwaffle\u201d instead of nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;m sure they didn&#8217;t see a single animal. However, I observed a squirrel up close and saw frogs. I found the nature and views of the Spruce Bog Boardwalk more beautiful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there&#8217;s enough time, I would definitely recommend exploring both these trails and another one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the entrance to Algonquin Provincial Park, along with a park map, there&#8217;s a newspaper listing all the trails and their locations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_Attractions_in_Algonquin_Provincial_Park\"><\/span><b>Other Attractions in Algonquin Provincial Park:<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tourist Information Center near the East Gate has an exhibition on local wildlife, plants, and the original life of settlers in the park. There&#8217;s also a beautiful view of part of the park from the terrace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Tip for Algonquin Provincial Park:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Consider a guided canoe tour through the pristine nature. Marie Among The Hurons\u00a0\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wendat Longhouse at Ste. Marie Among The Hurons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The drive from Algonquin Provincial Park to Midland takes about 2.5 hours (or 1 \u00be hours from Huntsville).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Near Midland is &#8220;Ste. Marie Among the Hurons,&#8221; a museum village depicting the life of the Iroquois and Jesuits during the early settlement of Ontario.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sainte-Marie is a Jesuit settlement founded in 1639 on Wendat territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The settlement was rebuilt on the site of the original settlement and can be explored on a tour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lindsay Earle, a history student, guided me through the settlement in original clothing, explaining the life and challenges of that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The houses in Ste. Marie Among the Hurons are open to visitors, featuring demonstrations of cornbread baking and iron forging. They also display animals that were kept by the settlers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wendat Longhouse is especially interesting. A family lived in it, and as the family grew and needed more space, the longhouse was simply extended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the outdoor tour, there&#8217;s a cinema explaining the lifestyle and life in the settlement, as well as a museum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ste. Marie Among the Hurons is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are beautiful small sand beaches where dogs are explicitly allowed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wendat Trail around Kettle Lake is about 2.49 miles (approximately 4 kilometers) long and is one of the park&#8217;s most popular trails. I enjoyed it the most.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MIDLAND\"><\/span><b>MIDLAND<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14820\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14820\" style=\"width: 1014px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14820 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cityseacountry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/fullsizeoutput_2452-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"mural in Midland Ontario\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14820\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">mural at the Pier of the Midland Town Dock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Midland itself is a small, quaint town on the shores of Georgian Bay, part of Lake Huron.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mural Walk in Midland is interesting, with many murals throughout the city depicting historical scenes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The largest historical mural in North America is located at the Pier of the Midland Town Dock.
