Since its initial consecration in 774, the cathedral has had an impressive\u00a0<strong>history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For the best views of the <strong>cathedral&#8217;s nave<\/strong> and <strong>altar<\/strong>, I recommend visiting the <strong>Cathedral Quarter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In winter, I like to explore\u00a0<strong>attractions<\/strong> and <strong>museums<\/strong> to keep warm, and the <strong>Cathedral Quarter<\/strong> is perfect for that.<\/p>\n<p>It houses not only the historical\u00a0<strong>staterooms<\/strong> of the <strong>Residence<\/strong> but also the <strong>Residence Gallery<\/strong>, the <strong>St. Peter&#8217;s Museum<\/strong>, and the <strong>Cathedral Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Cathedral Arch Terrace<\/strong> links the staterooms with the cathedral and offers beautiful views of <strong>Mozart Square<\/strong>, <strong>Cathedral Square<\/strong>, and the <strong>Old Town<\/strong>. The best part? He spent most of his childhood and adolescence here.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re keen on learning more about this musical genius, the house contains a <strong>museum<\/strong> spread over three floors.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll find\u00a0<strong>personal items<\/strong>, including <strong>letters<\/strong>, <strong>documents<\/strong>, and <strong>paintings<\/strong>, as well as some <strong>musical instruments<\/strong> from his time.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re a fan or just curious about Salzburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>history<\/strong>, a visit to <strong>Mozart&#8217;s birthplace<\/strong> is highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p>After visiting Mozart&#8217;s home in the Getreidegasse, make sure to visit Caf\u00e9 F\u00fcrst.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s close by, and you can taste the original Mozartkugeln. They are a sweet treat made of chocolate, almond paste, pistachios, and nougat.<\/p>\n<p>Opposite the caf\u00e8, you will also find Caf\u00e9 Tomaselli. It&#8217;s the most famous caf\u00e9 in Salzburg. They offer amazing cakes and pastries and you can even try the famous Salzburger Nockerln.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Ice_Skating_at_Mozart_Square_Mozartplatz\"><\/span>6. Ice Skating at Mozart Square (Mozartplatz)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>During the <strong>winter months<\/strong>, you can take part in a delightful <strong>Austrian tradition<\/strong>: ice skating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mozart Square<\/strong>, a central location in the city, turns into a <strong>skating rink<\/strong> every winter.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re a beginner or an experienced skater, it&#8217;s a fun way to enjoy the cold weather and soak up some winter sun.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Mirabell_Palace_and_Gardens\"><\/span>7. Mirabell Palace and Gardens<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Mirabell Palace<\/strong> is a beautiful <strong>Baroque building.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was initially built as a residence for\u00a0<strong>Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau&#8217;s<\/strong> mistress <strong>Salome Alt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The palace is surrounded by the famous <strong>Mirabell Gardens.<\/strong>\u00a0While most tourists visit the gardens in the warmer months, the view is just as stunning during winter.<\/p>\n<p>From the <strong>Rosenh\u00fcgel <\/strong>(rose hill), you get one of the best views of Salzburg, particularly the\u00a0<strong>garden<\/strong> with <strong>Hohensalzburg Fortress<\/strong> in the background.<\/p>\n<p>The Palace and its gardens are also famous for their role in\u00a0<strong>The Sound of Music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is where Maria and the von Trapp children sang &#8220;Do-Re-Mi.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you want to learn more about The Sound of Music, I highly recommend joining a guided tour.
